Bunk board encapsulation
Tried this with bunk slides instead of carpet. Sanded and covered the new wood boards in an approved primer with 2 coats. Then applied the smooth durabak with 2 coats. Was skeptical at first, but after the stuff dried and hardened, it's amazing. Used a marine silicone for the mounting holes. Only problem was my fault, over tightening the bolts somewhat crushed the wood into the mounts, breaking the water tight seal. 1 quart was enough to cover two 12 foot 2x4s two 5 foot 2x4s, and two 2 foot 2x4s with 2 coats with very little left over. Running a long screw or driving a nail in each end of the board allows you to cover all sides, by balancing them on sawhorses. I have an aluminum x19 boat. If my boat was fiberglass, I think I'd stick with bunk carpet, but you could still use the durabak to seal the wood. It seems to have more flex than using fiberglass epoxy
